Our Featured Speakers
Greg Bowman has been actively involved in small group ministry as a small group member, leader and coach over the past three decades. He has a passion for building ministries that connect people to Christ and community. He has served nationally and internationally as a trainer and consultant assisting churches in starting and building small group ministries. Greg has been on staff as Group Life Pastor for four churches during the past 27 years. Most recently he worked at the Willow Creek Association, providing strategic leadership and developing training events and resources for Group Life ministries.
Greg and his wife, Connie, live in Elgin, Illinois. For three years, they have been a part of West Ridge Community Church where Greg volunteers as Group Life and Formation Pastor.
Dave Treat is originally from Elmira, NY, and has lived in northern Indiana for 25 years. After six years in a parachurch ministry, he founded GranDesign Studios, investing 17 years in graphic design, multi-media production and technology consulting for business and education. Dave led the adult small groups ministry at Granger Community Church as a volunteer before moving to the Chicago suburbs to join the staff of Willow Creek Community Church in 2000. As a Division Leader in the Men's Ministry and Area Pastor in Neighborhood Ministries, he equipped volunteers and created strategies for connecting and discipling men and women in small groups.
In 2006, Dave joined the Willow Creek Association and became Director of Innovation for Adult Ministries. He was responsible for experience design, content, and speaker/trainer selection for the Group Life Conference and Small Groups Advanced training. Dave speaks and trains internationally on small group topics. He blogs at thinkingsmall.net and writes for smallgroups.com. He and his wife, Vicki, have been married since 1985 and have a golden retriever named Vinny.

Church Leader Track
This track features a full day with Dave Treat, a nationally recognized small group ministry stategist and trainer. This track is for small group pastors, coaches, senior pastors and board members.
You will spend four 90-minute sessions looking into small group ministry strategy, structure, leadership development and connection processes. There will be time in each session for you to apply what you learn.
This is a great opportunity to train church leaders, discuss strategy with church leaders and plan for a successful small group ministry totally supported by your leadership! The session descriptions are provided below.
Session 1 – Foundations
Developing a robust theology of community to strengthen and define your small group ministry. Using clear communication and modeling to support group life vision, values, and practice.
Session 2 – Framework & Tactics
The 30,000 foot view: Defining groups, assimilation systems and establishing your overall group life strategy.
Session 3 – Group Life
The ground level view: Knowing what should be happening in individual small groups, who you will train to lead them, and what they will need to lead.
Session 4 – Systemic Challenges
Ongoing support of small group leaders through shepherding and mentoring. Cross-ministry collaboration and conflict. Transitioning from other discipleship models. Extended Q&A.
